GPS-Trk Import/Export

Track File Export (iCloud, Dropbox)

  1. Go to iPhone/iPad's Track screen.
  2. Click 'Menu/iCloud' or 'Menu/Dropbox'.
  3. The track is now exported to iCloud or Dropbox.
You can choose the track format (Link/KML/KMZ/GPX) in Settings screen.

Track File Import (iCloud, Dropbox)

  1. Go to iPhone/iPad's Track List screen.
  2. Click 'Menu/iCloud' or 'Menu/Dropbox'.
  3. List of tracks in iCloud or Dropbox should be shown.
  4. Click 'down arrow' button of the desired track. The track is now imported to GPS-Trk.

Track File Import (Safari browser, directly from Web sites)

  1. In iPhone's Safari browser, go to web pages with track download. For example, http://www.hc-eng.com/tracks/tracks.
  2. Click link to download track file (KML/KMZ/GPX).
  3. Web page like the figure should be shown.
  4. Click 'Open in "GPS-Trk"'.
  5. The track is now imported to GPS-Trk.
With this method, you can download tracks from any web sites with track files.

Track File Export (Email)

  1. Go to Track page or Waypoint page.
  2. Click Menu button (in the top right) and choose 'Email'.
Choose track data format in Settings tab (Link/KML/KMZ/GPX).

Track File Import (Email)

  1. Send a track file (KML/KMZ/GPX) as email attachment to your iPhone.
  2. In iPhone's Mail app, open the received mail and long-press (hold down for one sec.) the attached track file.
  3. A menu, 'Open in "GPS-Trk"', should be shown. Click it.
  4. The track is now imported to GPS-Trk.

Map Image and POI photos Export (Facebook)

  1. Go to Map page.
  2. Click Menu button (in the top right) and press 'F' button.
  3. If it's the initial export, you'll be transfered to Facebook app or Safari browser. Type your Facebook username/password and grant permissions to post to your Facebook page. Then, you'll be transfered back to GPS-Trk. This process is skipped from the second time.
  4. Map image and POI photos will be uploaded to your Facebook photo album.
Choose Portrait or Landscape in Map page.

(Your username/password are handled only by Facebook app or Safari browser. GPS-Trk never touch nor memorize your username/password. GPS-Trk acquires only 'permission' to post photos to Facebook.)

Map Image Export (Twitter)

  1. Go to Map page.
  2. Click Menu button (in the top right) and press 'T' button.
  3. If it's the initial export, you'll be transfered to Twitter page. Type your Twitter username/password. Then, you'll be transfered back to GPS-Trk. This process is skipped from the second time.
  4. Tweet will be posted to your timeline, with link to the map image on twitpic.com.
Choose Portrait or Landscape in Map page.

(Your username/password are handled only by Twitter. GPS-Trk never touch or memorize your username/password. GPS-Trk acquires only 'permission' to post tweet and image to Twitter/Twitpic.)

Map Image and POI photos Export (Email, Photo Albums)

You can export Map Image (JPEG) by email, or save to Photo Albums (then sync to PC/Mac by iTunes).
  1. Go to Map page.
  2. Click Menu button (in the top right) and choose 'Email' or 'Photo'.
Choose Portrait or Landscape in Map page.

Track File Import/Export (File Server via Wi-Fi)

You can import/export track file by connecting iPhone and PC/Mac via Wi-Fi.
  1. Connect iPhone and PC/Mac to the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. On iPhone, go to Settings tab, click Menu button (in the top right) and choose 'File Server'.
  3. On PC/Mac, open web browser and type one of the 'Server URL'.
    ('Server URL' is shown in iPhone's 'File Server' page. Something like 'http://your-iphone.local:8080' or 'http://192.168.1.101:8080')
    Your tracks should be listed in the browser page.
    You can download/upload track file from the browser page.

Track Data Formats

GPS-Trk can import and export track path data in the following formats.
  1. Link

    In 'Link' format, each waypoints are represented as HTML link.
    This is suited to send your position to your friends by email, for example.
    'Link' is for export only.
  2. KML/KMZ

    KML, KMZ is used by Google Earth and Google Maps.
    KMZ is a compressed version of KML, its file size is smaller.
    Only KMZ format can contain POI photos.

    GPS-Trk supports import/export of both standard KML (LineString) and KML extension (gx:Track). You can choose which format to export by 'Settings/KML extention'.
    (Many web sites don't support KML extension yet. Google Earth does support KML extention.)
    Google Earth
    Download Google Earth from http://earth.google.com and install it to your PC, Mac or Linux.
    Double click KML or KMZ file.
    Google Earth will start and show your track path.
    Please open the top-left timeline slider tab to show POIs.

    Google Maps
    Visit http://maps.google.com from browser.
    Click 'My Maps'.
    Click 'Create new map'.
    Click 'Import'.
    Your track path should be shown in Google Maps.
  3. GPX

    GPS Exchange Format. This is used to import/export track path data between map applications and web sites.
